Familia,

I really like the DR! Everyday for lunch we have some kind of rice and some kind of beans with some kind of meat. It's different everyday but always tastes sooo good! The teachers are awesome! Most of them speak at least some english but no one is allowed to speak english in front of them, only spanish. I think my spanish is really coming along, I've been reading through preach my gospel in just spanish and have been understanding a lot of it. My companions are not all that great at spanish, so it kinda stinks cause I can't really practice my spanish anywhere accept the classroom since they don't understand much. I also feel like being in a trio makes me miss out on a lot of practice since we have to split up the talking between 3 people rather than just 2. And whenever we're practicing giving a lesson, one of the elders has these note cards with questions like, "What does family mean to you?", or "How is your relationship with god?".. And when we're giving the lesson we'll be talking about the restoration or something, and then look at him at one of those critical moments hoping he'll bare his testimony about the book of mormon or something, and it always ends up randomly being one of those questions in not the best situation.. it's funny but yeah...

Every monday we get to go to the university and walk around and talk with people.. All the dominicans are soo nice and it's so much fun! While we were walking down to the university there were tons of people driving around on little dirt bike type things and people would be honking at us. Our teachers gave us pamphlets and a book of mormon to hand out. The first people we talked to, there was 2 guys and 1 girl. One guy kinda listened to what we were saying and the other started whistling and pulled out his cell phone and pretended to talk to someone when we came up to him. Later we found a guy leaning up against a wall and we all started talking to him. His name was Moíses and he was way awesome. While we were talking to him, an english speaker came up to us wanted a english Book of mormon so my companions talked to him while I talked to Moíses. I told him all about the book of mormon and the bible. And i read some of moroni 10 with him and told him about the promise and showed him 3 nephi 11 and told him he could read and pray about it. And then he was asking me about where church is and how much he had to pay! I could really feel the spirit and it was really cool! I told him it didn´t cost anything and gave him a phone number to call and everything. It was way awesome! The heat isn´t as bad as everyone says. During gym everyone gets soooo sweaty but it still seems bareable. One second it´ll be totally sunny outside and then it´ll be pouring rain for a bit.

There´s a district of 7 haitian elders who are all way cool. They all speak some english and they´re way fun. I think at least some of them are from the more wealthy areas of haiti because some of them talk about all the video games and stuff they play at home and they make haiti sound just like america. They´re all way cool! Today we got to go to to the university to pick up trash for service. This random guy came yelling at my companions and i while we were cleaning and started talking to us about how great mormons are. I think dad would like it here too, everyone likes obama! But as we were talking to this guy then like the president of the university came by and said he was thankful for our work... I think... I couldn't really understand anything... But it was lots of fun! There are tons of lizards all over the place and it´s way sweet! So we tried to pick up trash wherever lizards were...

If it's not way expensive to send stuff down here could you send me some snacks that aren't meltable? Like some beef jerkey and skittles and maybe some of the gater aid powder stuff?? and some slippers too? just some cheap ones that are really small to store? but i hope kansas is great!!

Love, Elder Young
